The world your kids will inherit will need lots of healthy pollinators or they will be in trouble. Teaching kids to be good stewards instead of consumers is vital. Learning to be kind takes many forms.
Kids are often afraid of bugs and fast moving critters. When they learn how interesting they are and the purpose they serve, kids can shift that fear to fascination.
From Pollinators.org, here are the basic points: “5 Things Kids Can Do to Help Pollinators”
- Be Kind to Your Pollinator Friends
- Look but don’t touch
- Don’t use poison sprays
- Keep pollinators’ homes safe
- Bug someone (teach how interesting they are!)
Learning to respect and work with Nature will be a central issue for the world your kids are coming into.
In our Manner for All Seasons Storytelling series, (Four Tales of Wit and Wisdom), it teaches respecting nature and learning to say “I’m Sorry” This is a deeply important lesson.
